Press Release - 1/22/2009 |

Southaven Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 6:30 AM
Today on Hwy 51 there was a car crash where the main power coming into the FireNet1.com office was interrupted. We plan and rehearse for these types of events so every server, every fiber switch, and every power unit automatically went on battery backup. Our battery backups are rated to last approximately 20 minutes. Less than a minute after the car crash two transfer switches automatically flipped and both generators roared to life taking over for the battery backups.
When our main generator starts up, it automatically starts a cascading calling list to all managers with a very simple message, “the generator is on”.
Arriving at 7:30 AM, I noticed the work crews and that all the other businesses did not have lights. I quickly came to our monitoring system in our network operations center only to see what I knew would happen; FireNet1.com’s network was green all the way across the board. It takes a lot of money, time, and planning to insure that our network remains up. Why do we do this? Because our customers are very important to us!
As I write this press release, Entergy is already working on the power issues. There has been no time frame given as to when clean, working power will be restored. However, we know when power comes back on-line that our generators will shut down and await the next outage.
Just consider this: that same power pole the driver hit this morning carries our back haul fiber line to the Internet.
As we mentioned on a previous web article, redundancy is critical to us and to you. One of our “on ramps” is a line overhead and the other line is underground. These pipes are non-collapsible and redundant to keep you up and running. Not one single tower went down, even temporally.
This is sometimes how our days start here at FireNet1.com.
As you log in and check the news, know that we are always striving to make our service better and better. That commitment takes a lot of planning and a lot of infrastructure and we don’t want you to worry about it even one bit.
Our goal is your satisfaction.
Mike Perkins, FireNet1.com
